1/28/10 - 2/10/10

All of our reports are legitimate and are what you can generally expect, but it is fishing and Mother Nature can sometimes have her way.  We will not lie and boost our numbers or weights in our reports to gain your business like some.

Lake Tohopekaliga:  Toho has really turned on in the past few days.  It was getting pretty rough out there with what seemed like sub-zero temperatures the first part of this month.  The last couple of days have been fishing really good on the lake.  Yesterday (27th) we put 24 bass in the boat with half of them in the 5 to 6lb range.  We had 3 bigger fish with a 6lb 12oz, 8lb 9oz, and our biggest of the day was 8lb 13oz.  We caught all of our fish on shiners going through 6 dozen in about 6 and a half hours.  Today we didn't boat any monsters, but had 24 bass again up to a nice 6lbs.  The water is warming up and with the full moon, I expect a lot of the fish to move shallow and take a shot at spawning.  I will be looking tomorrow.

Today (29th) I took Rick and Steve Federico out on West Lake for the day.  We ended up with 16 bass in the boat.  Steve had a shot at a big bass and missed it.  He tried to throw the dead shiner right back on top of the fish.  Shiner went flying, but the hook didn't stay in it.  And of course the monster bass nothing short of a whale clobbered it.  Needless to say we couldn't get her to bite again.  However, at around 2:30 pm after trolling through some shallow water hoping to stumble on a big female fell throw went we just outside the Kissimmee grass line and set up shop on a point just for a couple minutes to see if we could get bit.  Steve put his shiner in between two boat cuts coming out of the shallows.  Yes, he totally redeemed himself and boated a big, beautiful 10lb 3oz bass.  Rick came in a close second with a 6lb 12oz bass that had appeared to already have spawned out.  It has been hot this last week going through around 7 dozen shiners on a full day trip of live bait fishing.  Call now and get out there while it's hot.

Butler Chain:   The fishing on the Butler Chain has been solid and consistent.  The shiner bite has been good on Tibet and Butler catching size nice size bass in the 3 to 4 pound range with the biggest of the bass usually coming between 6 to 7lbs.  We are catching around 12 to 15 on a 6 hour trip on average.  Carolina-rigged trick worms have also been working in Lake Louisa, Sheen, and Butler.  Look for dropoffs with shallow spawning areas nearby for big bass.  I saw a couple of beds two days ago but they were empty.  On the 26th I took Ron and his son Greg out for the afternoon and boated some good fish with the biggest coming in a 7lb even on the digital just off a shallow spawning area in Butler where it was about 14 feet deep.  So look shallow for spawning bass.

Conway:   Fishing on Conway has been good, but crowded.  The fish on this chain have been schooling, but everyone and there brothers are trying to fish the schoolers with shad and are throwing cast nets not far away from other boats.  It's a scene that I don't really like to frequent much.  However, with the warmer water temps and the full moon, I fully expect the fish to be all over beds out there right now!  So get out there don't fight the crowds, bring your polarized glasses and look from about 10 feet and shallower to find those fish who are doing their business.

Rodman:  I had the opportunity to fish Rodman on the 21st and 22nd of this month and had a very successful trip with Mike and Ryan Seitzinger.  We caught 14 bass the first day and 15 bass the second day.  We did end up with one big fish a shade over ten tipping the scales at 10lbs 1oz.  We had some great fish in the 3 to 6lb range as well with a couple others weighing between 6 and 7lbs.  It was a stellar year up there this time last year and I expect nothing less.  If you are looking for a trophy and can spend a couple of days up there, it is worth it.  Great scenery, great experience, great fishing, and the chance at a trophy every time you put your boat in the water.
